Embrace an adventure holiday where physical activity – walking/ hiking/ cycling or canoeing – takes center stage
Recently, there has been so much exciting sport taking place on our televisions from the Tour de France to the South African Comrades Marathon and, the Olympics in Paris. With so much inspiration, we thought it might be time to dust off those trainers and get out there ourselves… For us, this means a holiday with a difference. You might think that you need hours and hours of relaxation, soaking up the sunshine and drinking sangrias on a tropical beach island to recover from a busy year, but research suggests otherwise…
Recent research suggests we experience too much of the wrong type of stress in our lives.
Pollution, a sedentary lifestyle, unhealthy food, long work hours, and bad sleeping habits all put untold stress on our bodies and minds. Yet, while we need less of the bad stress, we need more of the good stress (eustress). This is the stress that comes from tackling a tough workout or doing a hike that tests our endurance and builds our resilience. It’s the kind of stress that builds you up rather than breaking you down.
Yes, that’s right, we are suggesting a holiday where physical activity – walking/ hiking/ cycling or canoeing – takes centre stage.
You’ll return home fitter, stronger and healthier and more able to tackle the challenges ahead.
Imagine being in the great outdoors breathing fresh air, taking in big skies, and absorbing all that lovely vitamin D from the sunshine (you’ll be wearing sunblock of course!). How about plunging into cold mountain streams `a la Wim Hof if that’s your thing? Sea-sand walks that smooth those callouses away… The wind in your hair as you descend a winding road, breathtaking views all around. Then, imagine climbing into bed at night, completely exhausted and ready for the best sleep because you’ve had such a physically active day
But the benefits start well before your trip even begins. Think of all those months of preparation to be fit enough to enjoy a physical holiday. You’ll be building health and wellness with a goal in mind and it’s always much easier to get your exercise done when you have a well-defined objective.
Another benefit is the camaraderie. Very often, hiking or cycling tours are done as a group or family group and shared experiences and shared memories are for life. Helping each other through tough moments, cycling or walking together, sharing meals, and chatting under the stars all add to the experience.
Here’s something you may not have thought about: did you know that it is possible to do cycling safaris in Africa?
Cycling safaris are becoming increasingly popular as they’re active and completely thrilling! You can access places that large safari vehicles cannot get to and view wildlife from your bike! Experienced rangers ensure the safety of guests and keep them at a safe viewing distance.
We hope that you too have been inspired by the grit and determination of the incredible athletes that have been on our televisions recently. While we might not want that level of intensity on holiday, we hope we’ve given you some food for thought and that you embark on an inspiring adventure soon! If you need some help planning your adventure, get in touch with us. We’d love to help!
